Hey there, welcome to Do Make Do! I’m Kelsey, but you can call me Do (Dew) if you like. The nickname “Do” has been with me since childhood, courtesy of my brother, who might have gotten it from heard my mom calling me Kelsey Dawn. Funny how those things stick, right? Anyway, now it fits perfectly with what I’m all about here.
I’ve spent years in the wild world of stage and tour managing, where I became a pro at fixing things on the fly. Picture me backstage, patching up set pieces, sewing up costume mishaps, and even mending flying curtains on cruise ships. I’ve got a whole bag of tricks when it comes to problem-solving, let me tell you!
And when I’m not saving the day backstage, you’ll find me knee-deep in yarn and embroidery projects. Knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching—you name it, I love it. There’s something so satisfying about creating with your hands, don’t you think?
But here’s the really cool part: At Do Make Do, I get to take old, forgotten pieces and give them a whole new lease on life. I’m all about repurposing and reimagining. Every item has a story, and I love being able to add a new chapter to it. Plus, it’s my small way of fighting back against the fast-fashion frenzy and all that waste piling up in landfills.
So, if you’re feeling a bit uninspired by your wardrobe, why not let me work some magic? Hand over those pieces you’re not quite sure what to do with anymore, and I’ll turn them into something fresh and fabulous. What about that garment that you love but don’t wear because you can still see the Canada day bbq mustard stain? Let’s see what it looks like with an embroidery patch. We all have that one favourite item that just needs a little TLC, right? Well, imagine if it could be even better than before. That’s what we’re all about here at Do Make Do— honouring the stories, making the old new again, and writing the next chapter.
Oh, and did I mention: We’re not just about making new clothes here. We’re also all about creating keepsake items—little treasures that hold memories and stories. Imagine turning your grandma’s softest scarf into a blanket, or your dad’s favourite shirt into a pillow. Or for those doting grandparents what about an appliqué sweatshirt spelling Nana out of special baby clothes! These are the kinds of projects that make my heart sing.
